In most cases, skin changes associated with aging can be treated effectively with medical aesthetic technology. Our treatment of choice for aging skin is Intense Pulsed Light commonly referred to as IPL™. IPL™ allows us to offer you non-invasive, customizable treatment of your aging skin with no downtime.
We also offer 70% glycolic acid peels in conjunction with IPL™ or as stand alone treatment of the textural and pigment changes seen with aging.
Skin changes associated with aging may be grouped: Group A changes refer to skin coloration and Group B changes refer to texture.
Group A
Uneven, mottled pigmentation, lentigines (“age spots”), and freckles
Redness and flushing (commonly seen with Rosacea). Rosacea is commonly referred to as an intrinsic aging problem.
Telangiectasias or small dilated blood vessels commonly seen as a “spider” pattern.
Group B
Fine lines (rhytides)
Large pores
Elastosis (coarseness)
Technologies Used
Vasculite™Elite IPL™: Intense Pulsed Light source generating wavelengths of 515-1200 nm. For complete equipment specifications, please visit Lumenis.com.
Glycolic Acid 70%

IPL™ treats the Group A changes that are related to skin coloration by targeting pigment and fine blood vessels.
Light energy is absorbed by hemoglobin and melanin and converted to heat energy.
This heat energy either fragments the melanin or coagulates the blood vessel leading to vessel wall damage.
Physiologic processes then clear the area.
IPL™ treats Group B changes that are related to texture and tone. The exact mechanisms are not clear, but the energy delivered seems to positively affect collagen formation and decrease elastosis.
IPL™ utilizes various filters to address each of the above problems.
Although facials are by far our most common procedure, IPL™ treatments may be done on the neck, shoulders, back, chest, and hands.
Typically 4 to 6 treatments spaced 3 weeks apart are needed initially.
Since aging is an ongoing process, additional maintenance treatments may be needed.
Glycolic Acid Peels can be used to treat photoaged (skin changes seen after years of sun exposure) skin.
The exact mechanisms of action are not known.
It appears that glycolic acid positively affect the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and the dermis (deeper layer of skin) leading to improvement in wrinkles and pigment irregularities seen with photoaging.

IPL™ photorejuvenation can be used in Skin Types I-V.
Glycolic Acid Peels can be used in all Skin Types.
